First Time in DC

Today was so amazing. I’m sorry but today was my actual first day in DC and wow no words are able to explain what feelings were running through while walking and viewing all these extremely gorgeous monuments. Walking up the stairs of the Lincoln monument was a work out for me, but actually getting to stand the same placce Martin Luther King Jr. stood for is I Have A Dream, speech was extraordinary. Most of my friends back home have never been past Georgia. As I walked into the Lincoln monument on is Presidental Speech the builders or whatever etched in the word Euture  but filled it in to make it an “F” to say Future. I thought that was just something little that I as a blogger can add to history for myself as I tell my children in the future of when I first saw the DC monuments.

As I walked by the west wing of the White House I was really amazing the see that the lights were still on inside and no one was even in the room, wel from what I could see outside, but that has me thinking does the First family think about the enviroment and saving energy the way they should be concerned about it.

Final Goodbyes

As the conference came to an end and everyone was packing and saying goodbye, I was thinking about the time I spent here in Virgina and DC.  Seeing that this was the final day was hard. I bonding with some really cool people like Rochelle Henton, Kara from Ohio, Katie Benson, Molly Stahl  and many other people. As I took numbers and gave mine away I realized this is the last time that I will be  able to spend time with this new family I created here in Virgina at WJMC at the George Mason. As I said goodbye to my bestie from WJMC Rochelle I realized that this is the final goodbye. I tried not to cry as I boarded the plane noticing that this is real its the end of my mini vaction at George Mason University. I miss everyone and will keep in touch. Nite

The Newseum

Today we visited the Newseum in DC and it was awesome. I actually got to see a piece of the Twin Towers. Something that I thought was really cool at the museum was that they had an Ethics section, and in there, there was a round table that was touch screen where you read questions and answer them and it tells you if your wrong or right. I thought that was cool because it got me to understand alittle  more about how journalists are suppose to decide on whether or not its a good  idea to right about and event or idea that was just proposed or witnessd.

Another thing that was cool was that there was a whole section about 9/11. It showed things like a photograper who lost his life trying to document a very important tradegy that has happened on our lifetime. Items that he had with him on that day were displayed. The items included his press pass, his cell phone, glasses, camera, exposed film, glasses, his wedding ring and many other things.

Pennsylvania Avenue Terrace was amazing. I saw the capitol, the Smithsonian Castle and many other things especially the Federal Reserve. I couldn’t believe I was near all these beautiful places. I hope I can convince my mom to come to visit DC sometime during the summer before school starts in August.

She would love to come if I tell her that there is a whole Obama setup that they have. She would probably like die right in front of the collage of pictures. But I’m pretty sure the body surfing picture of Obama on his family vacation will tear her apart, but I guess I will have to wait and see.

Pulitzer Prize pictures?  Those pictures were amazing. I mean those photographers really did earn that award for their pictures because you could see exact;y what they are trying to capture and help you understand. I saw a picture of a kid with a stroller walking through the water after a huge hurricane destroyed the homes and lives of many Haitians. Looking at that picture reminded me that when hurricanes hit Florida its not as bad as when they hit a place like Haiti where they have no shelters or stable concrete homes due to lack of money and neccesities needed to build strong homes. Seeing this little boy covered in mud and pushing a muddy stroller through the water had me thinking, if only the world could really see the everyday life of a Haitian in Haiti. Its tragic, so tragic that it would cause so much pain and sorrow that you would cry if you were there. Witnessing this first hand is very depressing but thats all for another time

My First Day

Written on July 13, 2009 – 5:20 pm | by epierre2

My first day during this mini vacation was actually better than I imagined. I meet alot of new people, (not too many from Florida) but alot of people from the north. I miss home, my boyfriend, my family and puppies. I got to meet the CEO and Founder of C-SPAN, Brain Lamb as well as Dean Flagell, who is the dean of GMU. I can’t wait to see what else in in store but I know it will be alot of fun.

Hello world!
